End of Semester Thoughts
I always get nervous working in a group, more so now because you never know when there will be time to meet up online to discuss things. Google Docs has been a game changer to a point, allowing us to leave messages for each other as I think we were all in different time zones. There are points to this that I don't necessarily agree with, and I've mentioned that to my group, however we left some things in here to generate conversation. I would probably do some more editing to this prior to submitting this to my district, but there are some great things in here that make me question the online behavior of some of my colleagues even more so than I do now. What would be interesting for future projects in this class might be to look at some law cases involving social media, and make that be a requirement. Court cases seem to hit home a bit more; sure teachers always shake their heads and say "Duh, why would you do that?" when they read the headlines, yet teachers still get in trouble with things. Being able to reference cases may help some teachers persuade others to change their online behaviors.
District Social Media Policy
With the help of Cheryl Brown and Dave Guymon, we've created a social media policy that could be implemented in a school district. We hope to generate conversation over what we've included in this policy, as I believe we've touched on issues that districts have experienced, are experiencing, or may experience in this digital and social age of education.
